Vegetable Garden
What do you need to grow a great vegetable garden in the Poconos? First you need a garden area. This can be a former flower bed next to the deck, elaborate raised beds or some flower pots on the patio.

Tomatoes can be grown by anyone. In a traditional garden or in containers on your patio or front steps.

If you would rather purchase transplants to set out, be aware that you will be limited in your selections. A mail order or online supplier like Totally Tomatoes may have 100 varieties of tomato seeds but only 3 dozen varieties of tomatoes available as transplants. The selection at your local garden supply may be only a half dozen cultivars ready to take home as transplants. Transplants may cost more to ship also. If you are planting your garden late or do not have the patience for starting plants from seed you may want to shop locally for transplants, or bedding plants as they are sometimes called.
